Beaumont Family had been in England for many generations, but
probably originally Huguenots
who had emigrated from France to England in the 17th and 18th centuries
during the persecution of Protestants in that country.
(born in Barton in 1830) and Esther Beaumont (born in Chesterton
in 1837) were married in 1854 before emigrating from Barton
in Cambridgeshire, arriving in Adelaide on the barque, the
Navarino, on 14th August 1854. They came out
with Esther's parents, Mr. Stephen Beard (born in Chesterton in 1811)
and his wife, Jane, along with
John Beaumont's sister, Ann Beaumont who was born in 1835.
They settled in Grunthal which is now Verdun in the Adelaide Hills and had eight children: David, Eliza , Emily, Jane, Esther, Martha, John William and Lillie May.
David Beaumont was born in 1857 and married Sarah Clark in 1877. Their children were Arthur and Walter Leonard (known as Leonard, born in 1880). David died in 1918. Arthur married Ada Grivell and Marjory was the only one of their children to survive. Marjory never married and died in 2006.Eliza was born in 1861 and died in 1920 in the Verdun area.
John William Beaumont was born in 1874 and married Christina Ann O'Toole in 1900. They had two sons: John Clyde, born in 1903 at Nairne, who died in 1921 and Clarence Ronald, born in 1913, also at Nairne. Christina died in 1932 and John died nearly thirty years later, in 1961. Clarence Ronald married Priscilla May Holly (born in 1902 at Morphett Vale, SA) in 1931 at Willunga. Priscilla and Clarence died in 1994 and 2000 respectively.
Lillie May was born in 1879.
A tombstone at the Balhannah Anglican Church Cemetery bears the following inscription:
Jane Radbone 1871 -1954.
The father and mother are John and Esther. David and Jane are their children. Jane Radbone was their grandchild, the child of their daughter, Martha, who married Edward Radbone. According to the death notice in the Advertiser of 24th June 1903 John Beaumont died after a painful illness in his seventieth year.
Leonard married Laura Isabel Lampe in 1905 who was born in 1882 in Nairne to Francis Lampe and Maria Jane Lugg (born in 1851 to James Lugg and Emma Dalton). Francis was the son of Hermann Lampe, a shoemaker, and Catherina Johanna Jager, both born in Bremen in 1818 and 1816 respectively They married in Bremen and arrived at Port Adelaide from Bremen on the Heerjeebhoy Rustomjee Patel on 29th October 1846. Leonard and Laura settled in Woodville and had two children: Harry, born on 25th January 1906 in Broken Hill, Lily May, who married Thomas M Nesbitt in 1928 and died in 1997. Lily was awarded an OAM in 1987. Leonard and Laura also adopted a son, Sydney George, known as Syd who married and had three children, one of whom, David, died on 14th September 1967. Sydney died on 12th June 1985. Leonard and Laura also had other children who did not survive into adulthood. Laura died on 12th November 1967 and Leonard died on 9th May 1969.
Harry married Reta Maude McInnes (born 16th February 1903, died 1978) on 9th July 1932, Reta's father was John McInnes (born 2nd August 1871), Member of the House of Assembly for Hindmarsh from 1918 to 1950 and her mother was Clara Emily nee Griffin. Harry and Reta's children were John Leonard and Margaret Claire. After Harry's first marriage ended in divorce in 1945, he married Dorothy Mary Hastwell and they had two children, Judith Mary, born in 1952. Harry and Mary Beaumont died in 1995 and 2013 respectively.
John married Jean
their children are Mark, Deborah, Gregory and Keith Malcom. Mark married
Judith Ridge, Gregory married Jodie Dodd and their only child
Grace Charlotte. Deborah married Neil Junfer and their
are Jacquiline and Steven Junfer. She then married Stephen
who has three sons.
Keith married Christina (Tina) McKenzie and their children are Alanah and Joshua Beaumont. He then married Gay-Ann Elliot (now Megan Beaumont) who has three daughters: Sarah, Kimberley and Rachel Elliot.
