The Advertiser described John Cahill as "dashing and daring, initiating many drives out of the centre", in his 4th senior match as an 18 year old in 1958 against Norwood. Port Adelaide won 15.12 (102 pts) to 8. 9 (57 pts), Geoff Motley was best on ground and John was 2nd. Look at that car, it sounds and feels great. I raced down from my Promotion at Balfours Café, in the city, with my wife Val, to pick up another great choice from John and his son Scott, and wise input from General Manager Ken. John was a winner because he always made the wisest choices on the footy field and now with cars, only the best will do for our Sth Aussie John (Jack) Cahill. Just for the records John Cahill came up as a youngster through the colts, seconds, with his first senior match on May 24th 1958 against top team North Adelaide at Prospect Oval. Port won 14.14 to 8.10 on a wet day. John played opposite Hewett at centre wing, and although beaten on the day, the coach saw enough to leave him in the team for the following week against Glenelg at Alberton Oval. He beat the Glenelg player Slattery and was amongst the best players. John's career has been a credit to him and I was there as an 11 year old watching at Alberton Oval. He later coached Port Adelaide, also Victorian team Collingwood and later AFL Port Adelaide. 2005 Jack is Back with Port Adelaide Magpies.

I wonder if John remembers that first match, when rover & coach Fos Williams made a slick and sensational turn only to find he was going the wrong way, kicking to the oppositions goals. Memories, Memories
