Heres a couple of power supply designs I have been using for years. They have both proven reliable and trustworthy.
The first is a fixed supply for running the radios in the shack. The 2N3055's and .1 ohm resistors can be extrapolated out further for more current output, provided the transformer can cope. The circuit shown will deliver about 15-16 Amps.
The second shown is a variable bench supply. This will deliver 5-20v at about 5-6 Amps. I used a wire wound Pot (3k) on the adjust leg of the regulator. Once again the 2N3055's and resistors can be extrapolated out to boost the current. I never bothered doing this due to the 5 Amp meter in circuit.
